WHEN THE TREES WALKED- RUSKIN BOND
* The story is about the author and his Grandfather who likes to plant trees all around.
* His grandfather has served many years in Indian Forest Service and after his retirement he has built an Bungalow in the Outskirts of Dehradun and has planted many varieties of trees.
* Trees like lime, mango, orange & Guava, Eucalyptus, Jacaranda & Persian lilacs.
* An Old peepul tree also was growing through the abondoned outhouse, which his Grandmother wished to cut as she preferred only to grow flowering plants.
* His grandfather also grew trees in the forest where many trees were cut down.
* One day the author and his grand father found an small island which was completely dry and only one mango tree was growing, so they decided to plant more trees there after the monsoon.
* They cut saplings of tamarind, Laburnum and coral trees.
* The peepul tree would take a root to the ceiling, the mango will sprout on the window-sill.
* After the Second world war, his grandparents sold the house and went to England. The Author too Left for England.
* But when he returned to India after few years, he visited Dehradun, and to his surprise he looked that the dry river-bed island was a small green paradise.
* He saw red blooms of the coral blossoms once he and his grand father had planted had multiplied and realized that his Grand fathers dream had come true.
* The author Ruskin Bond lives in Mussorie, India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1994 and Padma Bhushan in 2014.
