SPORTS STAR

·       Mirroring – in games like passing the ball, karate kicks, batting..in which one person makes a movement, the other tries to mirror the movement or copy it exactly.

Cricket

·        Indian women’s cricket team captain- Mithali Dorai Raj.

·       Mithali started  playing cricket at the age 10 and was selected to the Indian Team in the age 17.

·       Mithali lives in Hyderabad- her mother tongue is Tamil- Highest run scorer and the only women to surpass the 6000 run marks in ODIs

·       Mithali is the First player to score 7 consecutive 50s- Nicknamed as “ Tendulkar of Indian women’s cricket”.

·       Her famous quote “I want people to know me for my own identity. I would rather not be compared to a male cricketer”.

·       She practiced cricket with her brother- Govt of India awarded “Padma Shri” for her contribution in the field of Cricket.

·       Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana hit nine-qicket victory over South Africa in the Second Women’s T20 on 23rd feb 2018. Mithali was unbeaten with 76 runs.

·       Tit-bits-  The Women’s cricket World Cup is older than Men’s cricket. It was first held in England in 1973 two yrs before the inaugural of Men’s Cricket World cup
KABBADI
·       Usha Rani of Subedarpalaya in Yeshwanthpur,Bangalore, Karnataka.

·       She practiced kabbadi at the Kanteerva Stadium and started playing at National level in Sub-junior level category.

·       She sold flowers for her daily living until she got a job in the Karnataka State Police force, there she was selected in the Karnataka State Police Women kabbadi Team and was the youngest to be selected.

·       She was only 29 yrs when she won the Gold Medal. Known for her raiding skills in Kabbadi.

·       E.S.Sumanth-Sports Officer at Karnataka State Police Sports Promotion Board quotes that-“ She is an expert in giving leads, raiding opponentsand plays a prominent role in the Indian kabbadi Team”.

·       Tit-bits- India won all the 6 Women’s Kabbadi world cups from 2012-2017.

BADMINTON
·       P.V.Sindhu  or Pusarla Venkata Sindhu won the silver medal in the 2017 Olympics- The other one to win was Saina Nehwal who won Bronze Medal in the 2012 Olympics.

·       P.V.Sindhu came in the top 20 of the BFW( Badminton World Federation) in 2012 at the age of 17.

·       She started playing badminton at the age of 8. Her parents were professional volleyball players.

·       Her inspiration towards badminton was from Pullela Gopichand, the 2001  All England Open Badminton Champion.

·       She learned the basics of Badminton from Mehboob Ali. She then joined the “ Gopichand Badminton Academy”.

·       Gopichand quoted that “The most striking feature in Sindhu’s game is her attitude and the never-say-die spirit”.

·       She holds a degree in Commerce.

·       Her awards:

3.   Arjuna Award- 2013
